Sports may soon feel the grasp of the Kinect community as the world of basketball can now be played using gesture controls via the Kinect. With a virtual basketball and a virtual court, users can engage in their favorite sport simply by moving the hands to dribble and shoot the ball. Vimeo user dustin o’connor uploaded this video of his project in creating a virtual version of the basketball game. The virtual environment’s mechanics might seem a bit rough at the moment, but the foundations of this concept has been set up very nicely. The court itself looks real and the ball can be interacted upon. A few more graphic rendering, a built-in physics engine and multiplayer capabilities will definitely see this virtual basketball court come to life. Players may engage with their friends or those who are not so physically gifted can also enjoy a few shots on the court with this proof of concept.
