The popular sandbox game, Minecraft, has reached a new level of interest now that the Kinect can be used to play it. Youtube user leparlon released this video of him using his custom program and the Kinect to freely play Minecraft using only his hand movements. In the video, leparlon showcased this feature, moving his character through the use of his hand. The depth camera of the Kinect makes this possible by detecting the user’s pull and push hand movement.
The technology used here involved the Code Laboratories’ Kinect Driver for Windows 7 (enabling the use of Kinect on the PC), Visual Studio C# 2010 Express and the Microsoft Kinect. The code is not yet available as the developer is reportedly improving and adding finishing touches to the program. Follow his Twitter account to get it as soon as it is available or you can come back here at Kinecthacks.com for news of its release.
