The ability of the Kinect to serve as a natural user interface continuously extends its potential as a reliable device. The most recent use of thus NUI is in the creation of a great musical score. Youtube user rtflcgr released this video on how a user can interact with this Kinect setup for a multi touch musical instrument set up. The Kinect MultiMultiTouchTouch gives users the feature to play tunes by inserting their hand in the makeshift setup. The outcome is an interactive jamming session with the Kinect program that produces great and captivating music. While the Kinect has been known to create virtual replicas of existing instruments, a new trend is emerging in which the Kinect creates new musical instruments through the NUI feature.
Here is a description by the developer:
“Live improvisational jamming with the MultiMultiTouchTouch controller. The “buttons” on the lower left of the frame let me change the sounds, scale, and key. The middle “slider” lets me change the note quantization. The depth is converted into aftertouch, which has different effects in different patches.”
