When I was a kid, I could do cartwheels like a boss. But as I got older, like a lot of other things, it’s just a “skill” that I eventually lost. I guess it was mostly due to two things — I increasingly became out of shape and I knew that if I did it incorrectly, I could be in for a world of hurt. I’m sure I’m not the only one who wishes they could still do cartwheels. And not only do them but do them right. What if someone was working on a hack that could just maybe help you execute perfect cartwheels?
Enter the Kinect Cartwheel Trainer; a hack that combines the Kinect with OpenNI/NITE and, as the developer says, some “custom computer vision.” The developers says that this is his first experiment in creating an application to help you train for sports. Are you flipping yourself correctly? Are you doing your landing properly? These are just some of the things that the Kinect Cartwheel Trainer can help you monitor. Basically, what it does is it tracks the cartwheels you do so that you can check what areas you would need to improve.
The Kinect hack is free to try so head on over to the developer website using the link below. Be sure to let us know if it helps you with your cartwheels!
