Would you be interested in a chance to immerse yourself in a 3D environment, one that you could interact with and control with nothing but your body? What if there was a way to do that with no bulky gear, just a Kinect?  Well then you’re in luck because today’s featured hack does just that.

Submitter Alex says that DirActNI was the product of his Master Thesis in Computer Science:

” The aim of the thesis was the implementation and evaluation of contactless (whole-body) 3D interaction techniques.
Therefore the DirActNI framework provides the possibility of a natural and immersive whole body interaction in virtual environments. The user controls the environment directly and totally contactless to any physical controllers or sensors.”

DirActNI has many possible real world simulations. It’s a tool that can be used to help people better visualize environments, create interactive learning tools and simulation experiences. Let’s not forget the possible entertainment applications of something like this as well.

To learn more about DirActNI, be sure to visit the project website. I’m sure they’d love to hear about your ideas as well on possible applications for the project. We’ve provided a handy dandy link for you below.
