Virtual musical instruments are getting some attention from the Kinect community as more of these are coming are way. The Kinect Air Xylophone is one of the promising virtual instruments we’ve seen developed by the Kinect community. Alberto was kind enough to share this video with us showcasing the Kinect Air Xylophone’s potential in creating music. In the video, the user is seen possessing 2 playing sticks thanks to the Kinect’s hand detection feature. The person can then move his arms to strike the virtual xylophone, creating the signature high-pitched sound. As more and more instruments are being made available by the Kinect, everyone can try and create their own sounds with previously unavailable instruments.
Here is a description by the developer:
“This application allows the player to play an air xylophone. Here I use Ogre3D, FMod and OpenNI. As you can see the player can use simultaneously both hands.”
