Kevin Atkinson released this video on how he has modified the Kinect’s depth camera technology in order to create real-time video effects for the Kinect community. This video shows how by using his hand and gesturing it closer to the Kinect device, a rubber sheet effect is generated, creating an elastic video effect. Such Kinect developments will contribute largely to the film or video making industry. While this effect might seem menial, it can actually cut the cost and time of of post-prod editing. Also, such effects can be used for novelty or entertainment which in turn benefits not only the Kinect community, but also media’s large audience. For now, it might be just the rubber sheet effect but there will be more to expect in the future.
