Today’s submitted hack is from Chris Vik who has managed to find a way to control Melbourne’s Town Hall Organ using the Kinect and create an impressive musical performance. The video we’ve included shows an excerpt of their performance, “Carpe Zythum,” from November 2011. Chris Vik shares the following details on his website:

“I’ve created my own software Kinectar, which allows the use of the Kinect to control MIDI devices, ie. playing notes through simple gestures and motion. The Melbourne Town Hall Organ got a referb in the late 90s adding the ability of MIDI messages to active the notes… this happened.”

It’s an amazing work that manages to seamlessly blend a classical art with something truly futuristic. We love seeing these kinds of hacks here at KinectHacks as it allows our favorite hardware to demonstrate its potential outside of gaming and in the world of art.
